Without the use of a datum system (zero reference) on a part, it is not clear to manufacturing or quality where to manufacture or measure from. A datum is just a fancy word for saying which specific feature on a part will be used as a reference (zero) for tolerance calculations, dimensional measurement, and most importantly, from where the feature(s) manufacturing should build from to ensure a consistent part. GD&T facilitates an efficient means to communicate specific datums on a part. Some distinct advantages of GD&T are as follows: Success oriented organizations, which require accurate and common lines of communications between engineering, design, manufacturing, and quality should consider (GD& T) as their mechanical drawing standard. In today's modern and technically advanced design, engineering and manufacturing world, effective communication is required to ensure the design and manufacture of successful products.
The ASME Y14.5-2009 and Geometrical Product Specifications ISO 1101(e)-2004 series are very similar and provide identical means to specifiy dimensional requirements. GD&T, both ASME Y14.5-2009 and Geometrical Product Specifications ISO series are the only recognized international drawing standards in use throughout the world. GD&T is, and has been, successfully used for many years in the automotive, aerospace, electronic and the commercial design and manufacturing industries. GD&T ) is a language of symbols used on mechanical drawings to efficiently, and accurately communicate geometry requirements for features on parts and assemblies. We do not to want a 4th awning, and feel we have given the product more than enough chances - our opinion being this awning is nowhere near fit for purpose!! Purchase one and be prepared to be very disappointed until vango address their product defects.Įxtremely pleased with the quality of our Vango Varkla 420 after looking at friends Sunncamp and Kampa Air awnings I would say the quality of the Vango is better and it did not leak the first time it got rained on.ASME Y14.5-2009 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ( We are disgusted in the quality, and also very disappointed as we loved the concept, and have asked Vango to refund our money. A large rip has also developed in the rain cover. Almost every mud flap has ripped stitching, clearly the stiching of it is of extremely inferior quality, and is the same problem we have had with all the varkarla 420 awnings. This awning has even more faults than the last two put together, if that was possible, in that every zip down curtain has a dreadful UV brown stain across the middle where it has been zipped down to allow light in. We are now awaiting the result of our 3rd, and even worst complaint of all.
We are now on our 3rd Vango Varkarla 420, having had to take the previous two back with severe design and quality faults.
